The SM-2503 Link Protector provides a fully managed
automatic link backup capability to three "mission-critical"
10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet links. The system protects vital connections to
servers, routers, firewalls, and other key Ethernet devices that require
fail-safe link operation. The SM-2503 operates by non-intrusively monitoring
a "primary" link and, in the event of a failure, automatically switches to
the backup link; or switching can be controlled externally via SNMP, RS232,
Telnet, or front panel commands.
Key Benefits
Non-Intrusive Monitoring of Primary and Backup Network Connections
Automatic Switching in the Event of Link Failure
Full SNMP Management and Control
Special Features for Redundant Firewall Applications
Redundant 48VDC or 100/220VAC Power
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The SM-2503 Link Protector provides a fully managed automatic link backup
capability to three "mission-critical" 10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet links. The
system protects vital connections to servers, routers, firewalls, and other
key Ethernet devices that require fail-safe link operation. The SM-2503
operates by non-intrusively monitoring a "primary" link and, in the event of
a failure, automatically switches to the backup link; or switching can be
controlled externally via SNMP, RS232, Telnet, or front panel commands. The
Link Protector does not require any additional network cards in a server; is
completely transparent in normal operation; and does not affect IEEE
10BaseT/100BaseT repeater budget. The SM-2503 fills the need for a smaller
port count system (than the larger SM-2512 system) without sacrificing
management or control features. The SM-2503 is ideally sized for backup of
critical servers and/or firewalls and contains sufficient ports to switch
the internal and external connections as well as DeMilitarized Zone (DMZ)
attached proxy segments. The SM-2503 is designed for either tabletop use or
may be mounted in a standard 19" datacom/telecom rack with optional mounting
brackets.
